Bradford Street Climbing Lane (westbound)

Construction was completed in the fall of 2020, and lane striping painted in May 2021.

As part of the reconstruction of the Bradford/Prince Street intersection, the town is adding an uphill climbing lane to match the climbing lane on the other side of the hill. The much-maligned “sidewalk to nowhere” – which ends abruptly at the side of a house halfway down the hill – will be removed and replaced with a 5-foot-wide bike lane.

The intersection at the top of the hill will be regraded with a new accessible ramp to replace the current stairway, a large curb extension to reduce crossing distances, and new bike racks.

The “sidewalk to nowhere” (which dead-ended into the side of a house with no crosswalk) was rebuilt as a bicycle climbing lane as part of the Bradford/Prince Street intersection reconstruction.
